LAHORE: About six people were injured after two groups clashed in the Nishter settlement over the construction of a house on Wednesday.
Apparently, a Basharat person with others was busy building a house when his relatives (opponents) approached and asked him to stop any further construction. An exchange of harsh words was reported between the two sides which culminated in a gunfight.
About six people, three from each group, suffered gunshot wounds. The injured were identified as Dane Basharat 14, Saqlain Tariq 14, Riasat Ali 55, Ali Akbar 26, Iqra Liaqat 19 and Haider Ali 55.
HIT TO DEATH: A 70-year-old woman died in a road accident in Garhi Shahu on Wednesday. The victim identified as Shareefan Bibi, a resident of Sheikhupura, was trying to cross the road when a high-speed bicycle hit her. The victim fell and was fatally injured. She was transferred to the hospital but could not survive. The police transported the body to the morgue.
FIRE: Valuables reduced to ashes during a fire in a Cantonment house.
Reports said a fire broke out in a house near a bakery on Sarwar Road. Firefighters arrived at the scene and extinguished the fire. No loss of life or injury was reported in the incident.
ACCIDENTS: About eight people have died while 929 have been injured in 880 road accidents across all districts of Punjab in the past 24 hours.
ARRESTED: Shahdara Police arrested two suspected bicycle thieves on Wednesday. The arrested suspects have been identified as Mursaleen alias Munna and Salman. Police also recovered 10 bicycles and a cell phone from their custody. The suspects would resell the bikes in other parts of town after stealing.
Dacoits, Burglar Gang Dismantled: DSP CIA Cantt Tariq Ilyas Kayani, in an interview with Defense Media, said the CIA arrested four members of an inter-district burglar and burglar gang and recovered more than 15 million rupees in cash and 52 tolas in gold.
Dozens of theft cases have been traced against them.
